SALEM – An Everett man who police say burglarized a home in Saugus on Donna Road in December, stealing jewelry, cash and personal items, was one of two men indicted Friday afternoon by an Essex County grand jury.Luis Santiago, 36, of 916 Broadway, #2, Everett, stands charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, larceny in a building and malicious destruction of property over $250.The charges pertain to an incident in Saugus when police say he illegally entered a home on Donna Road around 3 p.m.A concerned neighbor heard glass breaking, saw a man running and quickly alerted authorities. In addition a house alarm went off.Police arriving at the scene caught up to Santiago and a foot chase ensued until he was apprehended near the Kasabuski Rink. Jewelry stolen from the home was reportedly found on the ground near the home.A Ford Escape was also found outside the residence.Entrance had been gained by forcing a back door open to a garage that led to the house, police said.A conviction on the breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony carries up to 10 years in state prison, larceny in a building carries up to five years in state prison and malicious destruction of property carries up to six months in jail. None of the charges lodged against him have a mandatory term of incarceration.Assistant District Attorney Karen Hopwood is assigned to prosecute the case for the state. Also indicted was Chad Quintanna, 31, of 35 Hamilton St., #2, Lynn, charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. The charges arise from two incidents in Lynn on Oct. 5 when he allegedly was caught with a loaded firearm and again on Nov. 25 when police said they arrested him again with a firearm, ammunition and a quantity of marijuana for distribution.Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Kirshenbaum is prosecuting the case for the state.Indictments are not an indication of guilt, rather it is a legal process that allows a case to be transferred from District Court to Superior Court, allowing for a more severe punishment.
