SAUGUS – Registration for all-day and split-day kindergarten will be held at the town’s elementary schools on Wednesday and Thursday, March 16 and 17. The sessions are from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.School Superintendent Richard Langlois said registration for all-day kindergarten is on a first-come, first-serve basis, and requires a $100, non-refundable deposit. Bank checks or money orders are the only form of payment accepted and should be made payable to the Saugus Public Schools.Securing a slot is contingent on submission of paperwork no later than June 10. Payment in full must be made by June 15.The $100 deposit plus a $1,700 balance reflects the all-day kindergarten tuition of $1,800. The installment plan has a service fee, bringing to total tuition to $1,960.Applications are available in the main office of the elementary schools, according to Cynthia Joyce, executive director of Pupil Personnel Services. At the time of registration, parents will be given an information packet with instructions for the September 2011 registration. Kindergarten screenings will be held over three days, June 7-9. Parents will be given a screening appointment date and time during registration.School Committee regulations mandate that children be five years old on or before Aug. 31, 2011, to register for kindergarten.Langlois reminded parents that Massachusetts law requires children be immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B and varicella before they are allowed to enter the Saugus public schools. Proof of immunization must be provided, he said.According to Joyce, parents must also bring key documents to the registration session, including the child’s birth certificate, a dental card signed by a dentist, and a vision screening certificate valid within the past 12 months. Additionally, parents must provide test results from a lead screening, proof of student withdrawal from a previous school, and a copy of the student’s IEP (individual education plan) or 504 if the child needs special services.Parents will be asked to provide proof of Saugus residency by showing a mortgage payment, lease payment or landlord verification form. The parent or guardian must also show personal photo identification with a driver’s license or passport. The hours of all-day kindergarten are 8:40 a.m. to 2:40 p.m., which aligns with the regular Saugus school day.
