MARBLEHEAD – It’s official: in a Friday afternoon press release the School Department announced the hiring of Matthew J. Fox as principal of the Marblehead Veterans Middle School.Fox is scheduled to begin his duties July 1, when Principal Elizabeth “Libby” Moore retires. He is currently the principal of Hamilton-Wenham Regional High and the Miles River Middle School. His prior positions include interim principal at Penn Brook Elementary School in Georgetown, assistant principal of Georgetown’s combined middle and high school and social studies teacher at North Reading High.Fox graduated from Washington State University in 1994 and has a master’s degree in educational leadership, which he received from Salem State College in 2004.He was one of two finalists chosen by a 12-member screening committee. Last week he became the preferred candidate and he was appointed after a site visit Wednesday.Incoming Superintendent Dr. Greg Maass chose Fox as a preferred candidate and confirmed his appointment.
