It’s another championship for the Lynn Comet hockey program this season ? this time, in the Squirt B division. The Lynn Comet Squirt B team drew a bye and won its semifinal matchup against Malden/East Boston, 5-1. This set up a championship game against Marblehead, which knocked off the Portland Jr. Pirates in the other semifinals.Lynn got on the board first when Conor Donovan made a saucer pass to Nicky Kosmas, who took the pass and snapped off a wrist shot that beat the goalie blocker side for a Lynn Comet 1-0 lead.Near the end of the second period the Lynn Comets would catch a break and receive a penalty shot in which Brian Clougherty would come in and snap off a wrist shot that would just go under the cross bar for a 2-0 lead. That lead would be taken into the third period. With just over four minutes left in the game, Marblehead fired a shot on net, sending a rebound in front, where a Marblehead forward would put the puck home to cut the lead to 2-1. With just under a minute left, Marblehead would pull its goalie. The move paid off as Marblehead tied the game with 34 seconds left in the game, 2-2.On the drop of the faceoff, Donovan would push the puck past the Marblehead center and split the two defensemen to break in all by himself to go to a backhand to see an open net but would be denied by the save of the game with the Marblehead goalie making a glove save sliding across the ice. The game went to overtime.Just over two minutes into overtime, Brett Benoit would take the puck down low in the corner and make a move around the defense and come out in front of the net to slide the puck five hole and into the net for a 3-2 victory.
