The Swampscott girls lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season, as Swampscott defeated Gloucester, 16-12, at Swampscott Tuesday night.Swampscott coach Paula Donnelly was very happy with her team’s performance.”It is always nice to get your first win under your belt. My team has lost a couple close ones, so it’s good to see them pull away in a game they performed well in,” Donnelly said.Swampscott was up 11-7 at the half. Leading the way for Swampscott was Taylor Eaton (5 goals). Katie Zarinsky had a strong game (3 goals). Swampscott improves to 1-3 and plays Danvers Thursday.Marblehead 20, Peabody 11At Marblehead, Marblehead was up 16-3 at the half. The Magicians received magical performances from the trio of Kiley Fischer (7 goals, 1 assist), Olivia Raisner (3 goals, 5 assists), and Maggie Collins (2 goals, 2 assists, 3 caused turnovers). The Marblehead trio combined for 20 total points. Kelly Collins had a strong game in net (10 saves). Marblehead (1-0) plays Masco Thursday.Ipswich 18, Beverly 7At Beverly, Ipswich led 9-6 at the half. Claire Leathersich had a strong game for Beverly (5 goals). Camden Vitale had a strong performance to complement Leathersich (2 goals). Nicole Woods had a strong game in net (11 saves). Beverly is now 2-1.BOYS LACROSSEXaverian 9, St. John’s 8At Xaverian, St. John’s had a 7-4 lead after the third quarter, but the Hawks rallied.”Xaverian is a tough team, and once they got the momentum, we could not find a way to stop it. This game will hopefully be a good learning experience for my team,” Prep coach John Roy said.Leading the way for St. John’s was the duo of Jimmy O’Connell (4 goals) and Colin Blackwell (3 goals, 1 assist). Blair Friedensohn had a strong game in net (9 saves).
