The game ended after the Spartans got up in the top of the sixth due to the mercy rule.Winthrop 5, Boston Latin 3At Winthrop, in the second annual “Battle of the Beach” vacation tournament, the Vikings raised their record to 3-3 with the victory.The game was a pitcher’s duel between Winthrop’s Alex Ferri and Latin’s Sydney McGrath, each of whom struck out 11.Winthrop went up 2-0 in the third inning, thanks to RBI singles by Leanna Ferullo and Jen Adamson.However, Latin grabbed a 3-2 lead in the fifth thanks to three walks and a bloop single that cleared the bases, all with two outs.However, Winthrop went back on top to stay in the bottom of the fifth. Ferullo led off with a single, and Adamson doubled to third.
