REVERE – The Lynn English baseball team got a much needed shot in the arm on Wednesday at Revere High?.but needed to take an unexpected bus ride to do it.Two days after being one-hit by Peabody, the Bulldog offense inflicted its frustrations on Revere pitching as English scored eight times in the third inning and never looked back en route to a 13-2 win over the Patriots. The game was originally scheduled to be at Fraser Field but due to the inclement weather of the last few days, Fraser was rendered unplayable.”The kids are playing hard and that’s all we can ask for,” English coach Joe Caponigro said.”We’ve had that big inning happen against us in a couple of games this year so it was nice to see us have it for a change.”This one was never really in doubt as the Bulldogs (3-2, 3-1 Northeastern Conference/North) never trailed and rode the back of a stellar pitching effort of Matt Merritt, who held Revere to only two hits and struck out eight over five innings of work.”Matt was all around the strike zone,” Caponigro said.English’s attack was led by junior shortstop Junior Santos, who had a pair of hits and drove in four runs on the day. Catcher Randale Lora was 1-for-3 with a double and drove home three runs of his own.The schedule doesn’t get any easier for English next week as they take on archrival Classical on Monday (4) and then follow with games against Danvers and Gloucester later in the week.”We’ve got a big week coming up and (Wednesday) worked out good so the kids were able to play,” Caponigro said.
