Lacrosse: Swampscott boys defeat Gloucester

The Swampscott boys lacrosse team defeated Gloucester 7-6 in a physical battle Thursday at Swampscott.Swampscott (2-4) coach Josh Field was very happy with his team’s performance.”My team played a very good game today. Every time my team plays Gloucester it seems to be a battle to the end, and this game was no different. I am just very happy my team got this one,” Field said.Leading the Big Blue was Mark Gambale (3 goals). Patrick Kennedy had a strong performance (2 goals). Richie Sullivan and Chris Masson added one goal each. Mark McMahon had his best game in goal (11 saves).North Shore 11, Lynn 5At North Shore, Lynn (0-7) had a complete team effort despite the result. Neil Whittredge led the way for Lynn (2 goals). Alex Amico, Josh Delgado, and Sean Gately all had one goal each. Goalie Riley McManus and midfielder Steven Riley had strong performances.Austin Prep 16, St. Mary’s 8At Austin Prep, Bucky Surette scored five goals for the 1-5 Spartans. Also scoring were Andrew Markham, Chris Coito and Steve Poliskey. Chris DelVecchio had 17 saves.Beverly 16, Saugus 3At Beverly, the Sachems got off to a slow start and could never recover. Saugus’ Dan Sheehan, Nick Taylor, and Shawn Gilman all scored one goal. Saugus (1-3) will try to bounce back Friday against Malden.Marblehead 10, Salem 2At Salem, Marblehead (5-1) had eight different players score. Alex Whitmore, Jacob Maselek, Sam Fox, Zach Cuzner, Ryan Gellert, Liam Gilliland and Ian Maag all scored one goal. Hunter Whitmore scored two goals. Salem’s Matt Wilson and Nate Staples scored one goal. Nick Romeo had a strong game in net (18 saves).GIRLS LACROSSEDanvers 15, Swampscott 3At Swampscott, freshman Clare Surette had two of Swampscott’s goals while Taylor Eaton had the other. Samantha Coogan had 17 saves.Fenwick 15, Lowell Catholic 5At Lowell, Becca Graves had seven goals and teammate Grace Celona, four, for the Crusaders (5-1). Annette Ruggiero had two goals; Natalie Emerson and Katie Hart had one each. Kaitlyn McCarthy got the job done in net with seven saves.
