MARBLEHEAD – They waited until mid-April to write their letter so they didn?t have to worry about “jinxing Marblehead with another spring Nor?easter.”But 20 Jersey Street residents didn?t want to let Easter pass without thanking the town for keeping the streets clear all winter. The $100,000 2010-2011 snow-removal budget has been overspent by about $250,000 this year, which means that the town spent all the additional money Town Administrator Tony Sasso set aside in the budget for snow-clearing overages. If the residents? letter is to be believed, however, the money was well-spent and Sasso wasted no time placing it before the selectmen at a special meeting Friday morning.Led by Marguerite Bailey, the letter-writers stated, “We learned that approximately 35 snowplow and heavy machinery operators from five Marblehead town departments ran on coffee fumes day and night during this unyielding winter to keep Marblehead navigable.”?A formidable ?Thank You!? from the polar end of Jersey Street to the Highway, Water and Sewer, Drain, Forestry, Parks and Recreation and Cemetery departments who made this winter as painless as possible for the rest of us.”?You are incomparable.”Selectmen James Nye, Judy Jacobi and Jackie Belf-Becker concurred with the thoughts expressed in the letter. Sasso offered only one question regarding the “jinx” they mentioned, probably ready to knock on wood..?Does anybody remember the Mother?s Day storm?” he asked, referring to a 1980s event.
