LAWRENCE – A Boston man who was convicted of driving drunk for his third time will serve eight months in jail before being placed on probation for another three years and will lose his driving privileges for the next eight years.Charles Armenis, 49, of 10 Lewis St., Boston, went in trial last week in Lawrence Superior Court on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while drunk after being arrested in Lynn on Route 1A last May.A 12-person jury found him guilty following a two-day trial. After being convicted, Armenis agreed to waive a second trial and instead stipulated that it was his third offense for driving drunk before Judge Garry V. Inge. The judge sentenced Armenis to a split term of two years in the House of Corrections, with all but eight months to serve and the balance suspended, and placed him on three years of probation at which time the judge ordered that Armenis is not to drive and will be subject to substance abuse and treatment with random screenings.Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Kirshenbaum successfully presented evidence that on the night of May 1, Armenis, driving a 2009 black Toyota Camry, was stopped on Route 1A in Lynn during a road block.Police Officer Matthew Wilson testified he could smell the odor of alcohol on Armenis’ breath and that he had red, glassy eyes and was unstable.Armenis stipulated he had two prior drunken driving cases.
