April 27, 2011 by Robin Kaminski

SWAMPSCOTT – Police say a car was found stripped of all of its parts, including the engine on Cherry Street Tuesday morning. The call came in around 8 a.m., on a report of a blocked driveway, and when police ran the registration number of the car, they found it had been stolen out of Chelsea. Police say the car is the second stolen and stripped car dumped on Cherry Street this week, with the previous having been found on Saturday. The owner of one of the cars had called the station to report he had located his car parts in a garage at 14 Roy St., where detectives applied for a search warrant. After it was granted, a search was conducted, which was assisted by detectives from the Governors Auto Theft Task Force, and located two car engines and a large quantity of other car parts believed to be stolen. The person who rented the garage space, William Murphy, 20, of 7 Parlee St., Salem, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property over $250, larceny over $250, possession of a motor vehicle engine with defaced VIN. He is expected to be arraigned today at Lynn District Court.Aside from that incident, police say on Monday, a call came in for a breaking and entering at 6 Shepard Ave., around 11:56 p.m. The resident said he had heard someone knocking at his rear door, and as the knocking got louder, he became nervous and hid inside the house. The resident said he heard the rear door window smash, and a person running throughout his home. The victim?s wallet was stolen during the break in, and police say the suspects attempted to use the victims credit card a short time later in Peabody. A witness saw the suspect leave the house and get into a getaway car, which headed toward Marblehead.Swampscott and Marblehead officers checked the area, but were unable to locate the suspect. Police say Marblehead has had similar daytime break ins over the last week and Swampscott has also had other daytime break ins over the last two weeks. As a result, police have advised residents to report anyone that may look suspicious entering or exiting their neighbors homes.
