Only one team was leaving Innocenti Park with its record unblemished Tuesday and thanks in large part to a stellar performance by pitcher Mackenzie Coppinger, that team was Classical.Classical and Beverly were both undefeated heading into a Northeastern Conference North matchup and when the smoke cleared, it was Classical escaping with a 2-0 win and a 7-0 record. Beverly is 5-1.Coppinger went all seven innings, with five strikeouts, no runs, one walk and six hits. Beverly pitcher Rachel Willwerth also turned in an impressive performance in the loss.Classical coach Chris Warren was very happy with his team’s performance.”I knew this was going to be a tough game today. Beverly is a solid team and I knew a few runs are all that would be needed in a game like this,” Warren said.Beverly coach Meghan Sudak was satisfied with her team’s effort as well.”My kids played a great game. They played unbelievable defense and pitched a great game. Unfortunately, my team couldn’t string enough hits together to win,” Sudak said. The Rams scored two runs in the third inning, and that was all Coppinger needed to record the win. Hannah Byrne (2-3, 1 walk, 1 run scored) and Chelsey Bartlett (3-4, 1 RBI) supplied the firepower. The Classical outfield had a strong performance on the defensive side.St. Mary’s 18, Marian 3At St. Mary’s, the Spartans got off to a quick start and never looked back. St. Mary’s stays undefeated at 6-0.Everett 10, English 0At English, the Bulldogs had a tough time hitting Everett hurler Michelle Zulo, who only allowed one hit (Taylor Newhall), but Victoria Oliva (5 innings, 2 walks, 6 runs) and Molly Cullen (2 innings, 1 walk) had a solid outing on the mound.
