The Peabody baseball team defeated Swampscott 5-2 at Peabody Thursday, to end the Big Blue’s five-game winning streak in a very important bounce-back game for the Tanners.Peabody coach Mark Bettencourt was very pleased with his team’s performance.”This was a huge win for my team today and for the program as a whole. Swampscott is a good team that was hot, so it was good to see my boys be able to put yesterday behind them and play the way they did today,” Bettencourt said.Peabody (5-4) scored first with an RBI double from Casey Grenier in the bottom of the second. There was a 30-minute rain delay in the bottom of the fourth inning. After the delay, the Tanners’ Ramses Vittini hit a two-run bases-loaded single to key a four-run fifth inning and give Peabody a 5-0 lead. Starting pitcher Nick Allen led the Tanners, pitching all seven innings, giving up two runs (1 earned). The Big Blue’s (5-4) Nick Meninno went seven innings and only allowed one earned run. Swampscott’s A.J. Baker went 3-for-3.Fenwick 12, Austin Prep 4At Fenwick, the Crusaders were down 2-0 in the second inning, but scored 10 unanswered runs and cruised from that point. Mike Mackenzie started this explosion with a three-run double in the second inning. Cam Borrelli had a strong performance at the dish (2-3, 4 RBI). Kevin Church recorded his second win of the year (5 innings, 6 hits, 1 strikeout, 2 runs). Fenwick is now 7-1.Shawsheen 14, Tech 9At Shawsheen, Tech had a strong team performance despite the result. Tech led until the sixth inning. Francisco Santos led the way for the Tech offense (3 hits, 3-run HR, 5 RBI). Michael Aybar had a perfect day at the plate (3-3, 3 runs scored). Elvis Aquino was an important part of the offense (2 runs scored). Tech is now 1-6.Masco 7, Lynnfield 4At Masco, the Pioneers dug themselves a 5-0 hole early and could never overcome it. The key to the game was Lynnfield not taking advantage of golden scoring opportunities (the Pioneers left 11 runners on base). John Festa had a good day at the plate (3-4, 1 RBI). Third baseman Dylan Costa hit a double and also had a strong day on the defensive side. B.J. Neil chipped in with an RBI single. Chris Dehuelle pitched well in relief (1.2 innings, 1 hit, 4 strikeouts, 0 walks, 0 runs). Lynnfield is now 4-3.
