One couldn’t have blamed Bishop Fenwick track coach Jay Smith if he was a little tired come around 6 p.m. on Sunday.For the first time, the Crusaders played host to the Division 4 state relay championships at Donaldson Field. The weather was perfect and Smith’s team didn’t let the task of hosting the meet interfere with some stellar efforts.The Crusader ladies finished in third place with 30 points while the boys tied for 10th with 21 points.”There is a lot of heritage here with this program at Fenwick,” Smith said. “But this will be the high water mark for the program. It was a great meet and the track gods smiled on us.”The hosts finished the day by setting three school records and having the girls shot put team of Tina Moran, Katie Wilkinson and Meg DeLorey defend their title with a distance of 91-8 3/4.The distance medley relay of Faye Haley, Arianna Maida, Taylor Black and Marissa O’Brien grabbed a second place spot (13:43) with Haley, Maida and Black joining Hannah Smith to break the school record and finish third in the 4 x 800 (10:07).Nicole Lozote, Jess Patnaude, Jess Giglio and Rose Fantozzi teamed up to win the 4 x 100 relay.The boys squad got a school record of 333-1 in the discus relay of Zach Nardone, Anthony Consoles and Shaun Farrell to finish second. The trio also teamed to place third in the shot put (121-6).”We got a lot of support from everyone and some nice comments about the effort we made,” Smith said. “The kids really did a great job with everything.”In the Division 1 boys competition, St. John’s tied for second with 39 points. The Eagles had a first place in the discus as Sean and Chris Enos joined Morgan Johnson to throw 393-0.Louis Soto, Nick Pesaturo, Joey Dumas and Brian Browne finished second in the 4 x 200 (1:32.01) while Scott Enos, Johnson and Scott Sheehan were third in the shot put. The Eagles also tied for third in the long jump and were third in the javelin.BASEBALLLynnfield 11, Wilmington 5At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (5-3) busted the game open with a six-run sixth inning. Chris Klotzbier led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBI while Carmine DiCesare was 2-for-3 with two RBI.John Festa had three homers and drove in a run and Pete Franchi was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Joe Satorelli got his third win of the season; Chris DeHuelle got the save for Lynnfield. Second baseman Rick Berardino and shortstop B.J. Neil turned three double plays.Fenwick 5, Whittier 0Winthrop 5, Fenwick 3The Crusaders got home runs from Dave Ruggiero and Gianni Esposito on Saturday to best the Wildcats in Haverhill. Against the Vikings on Sunday, Mike Davis was 3-for-4 with a run scored but took the loss on the mound.Chad Lessard was 2-for-2 and drove home a pair of runs on Sunday.
