May 3, 2011 by [email protected]

SWAMPSCOTT – Meeting briefly before Town Meeting, the Board of Selectmen unanimously voted to execute an agreement to regionalize police dispatch services with the city of Lynn at no additional cost to the town.Presenting the board with the agreement, Town Administrator Andrew Maylor joked that “this represents five years of my life” and said that “everybody’s okay” with the agreement.”The chiefs are okay, the mayor of Lynn is okay, town counsel’s okay and the city solicitor (of Lynn) is okay.”According to the agreement, Lynn will add police dispatch to the fire dispatch services it currently provides for Swampscott. There will be no additional cost to Swampscott beyond the $78,000 that the town currently pays, but Lynn will be eligible to acquire additional government grants for providing both services, Maylor said. Swampscott will also be able to use the Lynn police facility for lockup, Maylor said.In other business, the board voted unanimously for Matthew Strauss as chairman and Richard Malagrifa as vice chairman.
