Tennis roundup: St. Mary’s girls top Classical

The St. Mary’s and Classical girls tennis teams battled it out Tuesday with the Spartans coming away with a 4-1 win at GE Field.”We played probably our best match of the year,” St. Mary’s coach John Wynne said.Meghan Fitzgerald led a singles sweep by St. Mary’s (6-3) with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Saska Icitovic at first singles. Lauren Carifio defeated Amy O’Brien at second singles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, and Corina Pinto defeated Amanda Pearson at third singles, 6-2, 6-3. Kelsey Barrasso and Nicole Ferrari topped Sheba Neak-Stella Athanasopoulos at first doubles, 6-3, 6-1.Classical picked up its point at second doubles with the team of Ashley Ellis-Wendy Matanganyidze defeating Kat Troisi-Emily Hatchouel 4-6, 7-5, 7-4.Swampscott 4, Beverly 1At Swampscott, Beverly’s Sophie Blau defeated Kelsey O’Brian at first singles, 6-0, 6-3, to remain undefeated, but it was all Big Blue (3-2) the rest of the way. Rita Tsokanis won at second singles, 6-1, 6-1; Tatum Pederson, third singles, 6-0, 6-0; Francesca Pelletier-Shannon Toner, first doubles, 6-1, 6-1, and Danica Villanueva-Alicia Coyle won at second doubles, 6-1, 6-1.BOYS TENNISDanvers 5, English 0At English, the Falcons (8-3, 2-1 Northeastern Conference) made it a clean sweep with Nick Lisichenok defeating Kerlay Der at first singles, 6-0, 6-0, to extend his undefeated streak to 11 matches. Gabe Ochanski defeated Diego Vasquez, 6-0, 6-0, at second singles and Mike Olszak defeated Leo Barrios, 6-1, 6-1, at third singles. Jim Grace-Steve Wilkinson defeated Shivam Patel-Kevin Em at first doubles, 6-4, 6-3, and Mike DeSantis-Dan Gagnon defeated Mike Gately-Billy You, 6-0, 6-1, at second doubles. English is 1-5.St. John’s 5, BC High 0At Dorchester, Cameron Trosin won 6-1, 6-2, at first singles, Spencer Canny, 6-1, 6-0, at second singles and Chris Toner, 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 10-6 at third singles. Jon Corvi-Brad Noyes won at first doubles, 6-1, 6-3, and Mike Beluch-Mark Corvi won at second doubles, 6-0, 6-0. The Eagles are 8-1.Marblehead 5, Peabody 0At Marblehead, the Magicians were led by Chris Wigglesworth at first singles (6-3, 7-5). Other winners for Marblehead were: Tyler Gelineau, second singles (6-4, 6-3); Jason Frost, third singles (6-3, 6-2); Dylan White and Ryan Dempsey, first doubles (6-0, 6-0); Peter Jackson and Sean Jackson, second doubles (6-3, 6-1). Marblehead keeps its record perfect at 5-0.
