SALEM – A Swampscott ex-auto dealer who allegedly swindled several people out of luxury cars he had agreed to sell for them from his Danvers car dealership was indicted Friday afternoon by an Essex County grand jury.Daniel Wright, 45, of 203 Humphrey St., Swampscott, is charged with four counts of larceny more than $250, two counts of forgery as well as two counts of uttering a forged instrument involving allegations that began in May of 2010.The charges levied against Wright arise out of a month-long investigation with Danvers police that began late last year following numerous complaints from former customers, according to court records.Police believe cars were inappropriately sold or transferred.Wright, who for two years owned Sterling Motor Group, located at 70 Andover St. on Route 114 in Danvers, apparently told people he would sell their cars for them on a consignment basis and then either turn over the proceeds or use them to pay off notes on new cars he sold to them.In one case, he reportedly sold a Mercedes for $600 to a Melrose widow who wanted to trade it in for an SUV to transport her young children.Assistant District Attorney Michael Patten is assigned to prosecute the case. Also indicted was Ali McMillan, 21, last known address of 56 Rogers Ave., #3, Lynn, charged with trafficking over 28 grams of cocaine and trafficking cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school zone concerning his arrest in Lynn on March 29.Police say they busted McMillan for peddling cocaine near Lynn English High School after receiving an anonymous tip.Lynn police set up surveillance in the area of Tucker Street when they spotted a black male get out of a car, walk over to another car and then get back into his car and drive off. Police stopped the car on Goodridge Street. McMillan, who was a passenger in the car, was observed by police reaching into his coat pocket and was ordered out of the car. Police pat frisked him and reportedly seized a large bag of cocaine along with $550 in cash. Authorities said they found additional cocaine on his person during booking. A total of 30 grams of cocaine, a little over an ounce, was reportedly discovered. He faces a minimum mandatory punishment of seven and a half years in state prison if convicted of both charges.McMillan was also indicted earlier this week on gun and cocaine charges in connection with his arrest Nov. 22 in Lynn following a motor vehicle stop.Assistant District Attorney Michael Sheehan is prosecuting both cases.Indictments are not an indication of guilt, rather it is a legal process that allows a case to be transferred from District Court to Superior Court allowing for a more severe punishment.
