SALEM – A Peabody man accused of trying to steal marijuana at gunpoint from another man on Veterans Memorial Drive has been indicted by an Essex County grand jury.Gary Ellis, 25, of 63 Veterans Memorial Drive, #3, Peabody stands charged with armed assault with intent to rob concerning an incident in Peabody on March 9 when he allegedly tried to steal marijuana at gunpoint from a man in his neighborhood.Ellis and Joshua Good, 24, of 5 Veterans Memorial Drive, are each charged with intimidation of a witness for allegedly trying to influence the victim from reporting the incident to authorities.Assistant District Attorney Marsha H. Slingerland is prosecuting the case for the state.Indictments are not an indication of guilt, rather it is a legal process that allows a case to be transferred from District Court to Superior Court allowing for a more severe punishment.
