Lacrosse: Tech boys work OT to defeat Lynn

It took a pair of overtimes but the Lynn Tech lacrosse team picked up a 9-8 win over Lynn on Friday on a goal from Tom Constantine in the second sudden death period.For a photo gallery of the Swampscott boys lacrosse game, click here.”(Lynn) had the lead but my guys wouldn’t quit,” Tech coach Jay Richards said. “It was a great game by both teams.”The teams were tied at 1-1 after a quarter and 5-5 at the break. It was a 7-5 game after three quarters with Lynn opening up a two goal lead in the final period before Tech came roaring back.”My kids played awesome,” Lynn coach Peter Papagianopoulas said. “That was the best game we’ve played all year. I can’t say enough about their effort.”Jeremy Quentin had a hat trick and Jason Grant added two goals for the Tigers. Lynn was led by a hat trick from Steven Riley and two goals from Neil Whittredge.St. Mary’s 10, Saugus 7At Saugus High, Steve Poliskey had two goals and three assists as the Spartans (5-7) kept their state tournament hopes alive. Bucky Surette and Justin Thorne added two goals each.Saugus (2-11) was led by for goals from Dillon Hartigan and a hat trick by Nick Taylor.Weston 12, Swampscott 3At Blocksidge Field, the Big Blue (5-8), minus three players suspended after Thursday’s fracas with Hamilton-Wenham, hung tough against one of the top Division 3 teams in the state for three quarters. Patrick Kennedy had two goals and Sean Lannon added the other.GIRLS LACROSSEMarblehead 19,Manchester-Essex 13At Marblehead, the Magicians (9-3-1 overall; 4-0 NEC/North; 4-1 NEC overall) got seven goals and three assists from Kiley Fischer; and five goals and four assists from Olivia Raisner.Other scorers for Marblehead included Sarah Noyes (2 goals, 2 assists), Hayley Braun and Tyler Phillips (2 goals 1 assist each).Kelly Collins had 14 saves for the Magicians.
