Lacrosse: St. Mary’s closes season with strong win over Fenwick

The St. Mary’s boys lacrosse team capped its season on Monday with a 14-7 win over Bishop Fenwick at Donaldson Field in Peabody.The Spartans (7-9) led 5-4 late in the first half but rattled off three quick goals to go to the break with an 8-4 lead. Bucky Surette had three goals and six assists to lead St. Mary’s.Steve Poliskey netted four goals and Brian Griffin added a hat trick. Justin Thorne also had a goal for the Spartans.Swampscott 5, Martha’s Vineyard 3At Phillips Park, Matt Gambale; Aidan Lang; Pat Kennedy; Chris Mason and Josh Rothwell each had a goal as the Big Blue (7-10) played a strong defensive game.”Our defense played phenomenal,” Swampscott coach Josh Field said. “We were able to be patient and made them make mistakes.”GIRLS LACROSSEMasco 21, Fenwick 20At Masco, the Crusaders saw a six-goal lead with seven minutes remaining slip away. Masco tied the game with 3:45 left, but Fenwick came back to take the lead. Masco tied the game again with 1:10 remaining and potted the winning goal with 48 seconds left.Becca Graves (6 goals), Lauren Moulton (6 goals), Grace Celona (5 goals), Anna Moulton (2 goals) and Annette Ruggiero (1 goal) took care of the scoring for Fenwick, which finishes the regular season at 15-3.”We played a great game. We just made some mental mistakes at the end and that cost us,” Fenwick coach Karen Guillemette said.Marblehead 19, Hamilton-Wenham 5In South Hamilton, the Magicians (12-4-1) spread the scoring around. Kiley Fischer had four goals and two assists; Olivia Raisner (5 goals, 5 assists); Tyler Phillips (4 goals, 2 assists, 2 ground balls); Meggie Collins (2 goals, 3 assists, 5 ground balls), Maika Phillips (goal, 5 ground balls) and Sarah Noyes, Hayley Braun and Casey McDonald, one goal each. Braun also had an assist and four ground balls. Kelly Collins was in net.Lynnfield 15, Swampscott 8At Lynnfield, Kita Wheeler and Katie Zarinsky each had three goals with Taylor Eaton and Sarah Witt adding one each for the Big Blue (2-15) in the loss.
