Lynn woman charged with assaulting friend

LYNN – A Lynn woman was allegedly whacked over the head with a cutting board on Chatham Street Monday following a heated argument with a family friend.The suspect, Marta Lopez, 20, of 63 Chatham St., #2, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and is expected to be arraigned today at Lynn District Court.According to police, the victim dialed 911 around 5:40 p.m., breathed heavily into the phone and said she had been shot before the line went dead. A handful of police cruisers and ambulances rushed over to the apartment, where they found the victim suffering from a head wound.After treating her at the scene, police led the bandaged and bloodied victim to a waiting ambulance, where she was taken to a local hospital for treatment.Although police say the victim clearly said she had been shot, there was an apparent language barrier upon arrival at the scene. No further information was made available Monday evening.
