LYNN – Two dozen people were arrested on May 20 during a State Police “Zero Tolerance” sweep of the city.According to David Procopio, spokesman for the Massachusetts State Police, eight troopers from the Troop A Community Action Team (CAT) made 24 arrests, issued five criminal summonses and towed approximately 30 vehicles.Procopio said charges for those arrested included motor vehicle violations, drug possession, outstanding warrants and local ordinance violations. Suspects were booked through the State Police Revere barracks and Lynn Police and bailed for arraignment in Lynn District Court. The sweep was the latest in an ongoing partnership between the State Police and the Lynn Police.”The Lynn Police do an excellent job in their city and we are grateful for the opportunity to provide periodic force packages through our Troop A CAT to assist them,” said Colonel Marian J. McGovern, superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police.According to Lynn Police Lt. William Sharpe the department was approached by CAT and, after being made aware of their willingness to provide resources to the city, several operations have since occurred.”We provide support to their operation as needed and, in general, their presence and activities contribute to the department’s ongoing effort to address traffic safety issues within the city of Lynn,” he said.
