Several English High football players have nailed down their college plans. Cole Gentile will be playing at St. Anselm College in New Hampshire, according to English coach Peter Holey. Several Lynn athletes are heading to St. Anselm this coming fall, including Classical football player Josh Cheever and Rams softball player Hannah Byrne.English quarterback and Item All-Star Tyllor McDonald, who took home the Item Offensive Player of the Year Award last fall, is heading to Ventura Junior College in California along with teammate Melvin Tavares. Both plan to play football. McDonald threw for 1,343 yards as a senior and connected for 16 touchdowns. He was the English team MVP on Thanksgiving Day. Neil Whittredge will be heading to Suffolk University in the fall and teammate Nick Flawa is going to UMass-Lowell.Nick Grassa, who played football and basketball at Classical, will be attending Salem State University with plans to play basketball, according to his father, Tom Grassa. Older brother Jasper will be a sophomore on the Bentley University men’s team next year.Stephen Almquist, a four-year player for the Saugus High football team, will be attending Anna Maria College in Paxton, where he plans to major in media communications. Almquist was a defensive back, running back and wide receiver for the Sachems. He was a captain his senior year. Almquist plans to play at Anna Maria.Doug Shribman of Marblehead wrapped up a great senior season on the Bucknell University baseball team. Shribman’s final numbers for the season include a .359 batting average. His 78 hits included 17 doubles, a triple, 21 home runs and a team-leading 62 RBI. Shribman had two hits in Bucknell’s final game of the season, a 6-0 loss to Navy in the Pacific Coast League playoffs. Shribman ended his college career with an 11-game hitting streak and with his two hits, he became only the sixth player in the program’s history to record 200 hits (he finished with 201).
