LYNN – Adam Sandler will add his name to an expanding list of movies filmed in part in Lynn later this year when he is scheduled to star in “I Hate You, Dad.”A location scout for the movie will meet on June 6 with Mayor Judith Flanagan Kennedy and Police Chief Kevin Coppinger, mayor?s executive assistant Mary Chalmers said Friday.Chalmers said the discussion will focus on places to film “I Hate You, Dad” locally and on any road closings required to accommodate movie crews.Chalmers said the Columbia Pictures film crew shooting the Sandler movie is familiar with Lynn.?It?s the same people who did ?The Town? so they know Lynn. They had an easy time with the planning,” she said.Chalmers said Joshua Youmans is the location scout for “I Hate You, Dad.” Reached Friday by telephone, Youmans declined to discuss the movie and referred an inquiry about its plot line to an online description and Columbia Pictures publicists.Sandler plays a disagreeable father who moves in with his son before he is about to get married, according to the online site, www.imbd.com.?The Town,” a 2010 crime drama starring Ben Affleck, included a scene shot in Connery Rink on Shepard Street. Other locally-shot movies include “The Company Men” with Affleck shot in 2009 with a scene at Gannon Municipal Golf Course and “Surrogates,” the 2008 Bruce Willis futuristic action film that includes scenes shot downtown.City Community Development Director James Marsh said Lynn Arts Director Susan Halter and Lynn Museum Director Kate Luchini recently suggested the city highlight its emerging stardom.?They said we should think about doing a Lynn film festival,” he said, adding he would be thrilled if Sandler could be convinced to do a night of stand-up comedy in Veterans Memorial Auditorium.Chalmers said Columbia representatives contacted the mayor?s office a month ago expressing interest in filming locally.
