LYNN – A Lawrence man allegedly stabbed another man with an 8-inch screwdriver outside of the Fenix Bar early Monday.Jose M. Muniz, 31, of 216 Prospect St., #2, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, screwdriver, and arraigned Tuesday at Lynn District Court by Judge James Lamothe. He posted $2,000 cash bail, with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for June 28.According to court documents, a fight broke out at the 517 Washington St. bar around 1 a.m., where police were called to a report of a stabbing. Several witnesses were standing in front of the bar when police arrived and pointed toward Union Street, where they said there was a suspect armed with a knife.Several people were seen running down Union Street, including one man wearing a white tank-top, later identified as Muniz. Police caught up with Muniz, who was walking with his arm around a woman, and another couple several feet in front of them.Muniz’s tank-top was ripped around the collar and his left eye was swollen with fresh blood dripping down his face. He told police, “some guy just tried to kill me” as he was pat-frisked. At the same time, the officer saw a screwdriver at the feet of the woman he was with and took custody of it.She allegedly said she didn’t know why the screwdriver was there and said she didn’t see anyone get stabbed, despite a witness report that Muniz allegedly stabbed another man in the chest and side with a screwdriver, and later the victim’s right arm.The woman with Muniz did say that Muniz had been punched in the face by a bar-goer who had exchanged “words with him.”
