LYNN – The annual Lynn Firefighters Memorial will be held Sunday, June 12 to honor active and retired firefighters, as well as any who died in 2010.?It?s a small event, and a somber one, but really nice and a good reason to get in uniform,” said Lynn Fire Chief Dennis Carmody. The service will kick off at 10 a.m., at the Broadway fire station. Roughly 70 firefighters will march to the Pine Grove Cemetery on Boston Street where a wreath will be placed on the firefighters monument.?The Lynn English ROTC will march with us, and we?ll have a fire truck as well,” he said. “We?ve been fortunate (to not have recently lost firefighters in the line of duty), but we?re also keeping our fingers crossed.”This year?s guest speaker will be retired firefighter Marc Ducharme, who suffered a heart attack while battling a fire on Oakwood Street on Jan. 5, 2010. His heart was restarted with a portable defibrillator at the scene and doctors later determined that Ducharme had an 80-percent blockage in an artery leading to his heart. He made a full recovery from the attack but, soon afterwards, he retired.
