LYNNFIELD – Town residents overwhelmingly approved an override of Proposition 2? Monday. The request of $560,000 allocated toward general operating expenses won by a margin of 1,613 votes for to 1,052 against (60.6-39.4)The turnout was especially high with 2,665 voters registering their preference. “Money is an issue that brings people out,” said Town Clerk Amy Summers. “It has been a pretty good turn out.” Summers said that this special election brought out more voters than the last town election. The $560,000 will go toward funding expenses for the fiscal year beginning July 1.While emotions have been mixed on the override, Summers believes it is important for everyone to vote. “I always encourage people to vote,” said Summers. “It gives us a true sense of what the town at large feels on an issue.”Lynnfield native Nancy Archdeacon is one of the many who voted yes. “I believe in maintaining the quality of services here,” said Archdeacon.Archdeacon believed that most of her neighbors in Lynnfield would also vote yes. “I think people here care about the school system and what to maintain those values,” said Archdeacon. “It is a family orientated town and people care about education here.”Lynnfield native Rebecca Scenna also voted yes for the override. “I think it is a very important vote for the schools and the future of our children,” said Scenna. “I think a lot of people with young children as I have myself will vote yes. The schools here are a big reason why we live here. It?s the right thing to do.”OVERIDE RESULTSYES NOPrecinct 1 495 272Precinct 2 396 243Precinct 3 272 198Precinct 4 450 339Total 1613 1052Percent 60.6 39.4Total votes n 2,665
