NAHANT – Selectmen voted unanimously Thursday night to write a letter expressing dismay that Nahant Market, which is located across the street from Johnson Elementary School, was issued a violation for a tobacco compliance check.Selectman Richard Lombard said he was not too happy with “the idea of a violation happening directly across from the school,” in supporting the measure. It was the first violation for the business in the annual checks, which are completed by the North Shore Tobacco Control Program, said Town Administrator Mark Cullinan. The violation entails a $100 fine to be paid to the town, he said.Nahant Market Manager Billy Mai said Friday that he didn’t know what had happened during the incident. He noted that his repeated calls to the tobacco control program were not answered.Mai also noted that the report had only a brief description of the alleged teenager and didn’t give any official identification for her. He said that he planned to meet with Cullinan to discuss the matter.
