SWAMPSCOTT – Town Administrator Andrew Maylor expressed frustration about what he said was a delay in the transfer of the former senior center building to the town.”I’ve had repeated attempts to contact the group to get the process to us,” Maylor said last Friday afternoon. “I’ve had no response.”Maylor told selectmen on Tuesday night the same thing. The process has already taken more than 30 years. The Leon E. Abbot Post 57 of the American Legion offered the building at 89 Burrill St. to the town at the 1980 Town Meeting. According to that year’s annual report, Town Meeting voted to accept the gift and use it as a Senior Citizen Drop-In center. The report also sets a stipulation that if the town sold the building, $10,000 of the proceeds would be contributed to the Veteran’s War Fund Scholarship. But the town never executed the deed to the building, Maylor said. This year, Town Meeting voted to finalize the sale of the building for $20,000 to go to the scholarship fund.Attorney Neal Rossman, who represents the Post, responded to a message but could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
