SAUGUS – Police and firefighters combed Breakheart Reservation early Thursday morning in response to a call about an unconscious 16-year-old girl. Assistant Chief of Police Leonard Campanello said Saugus police received a call at 4:10 a.m. from the girl?s friend saying she was unresponsive. Campanello said the 16-year-old was intoxicated and not responding when police found her on the Wakefield side of the 460-acre reservation. Fire Chief James Blanchard said it took responders nearly 45 minutes to find the 16-year-old. They called in help from the Wakefield Police Department to find her. Blanchard said the caller told Saugus police the teen was located “at the beach,” but when responders arrived, there was no sign of her and her friends? They immediately went to the beach and no one was there,” said Blanchard. “So they immediately contacted Wakefield and she was found on the Wakefield end of Breakheart. We have a great rapport with Wakefield. They help us a lot.”Blanchard said the girl was given oxygen and stabilized and taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
