SALEM – A Lynn man accused of shooting a man on Howard Street last winter during a drug buy turned robbery is being held on $100,000 cash bail at the Middleton Jail following his arraignment Monday in Salem Superior Court.Domingo Mejia, 19, of 55 Howard St., pleaded innocent to charges of armed assault with intent to murder, armed assault with attempt to rob and carrying a firearm without a license.Judge David A. Lowy set the bail at the request of Assistant District Attorney A.J. Camelio, but the defense will seek a bail review at the next court hearing.Defense lawyer Mark Schmidt told Lowy he was not yet prepared to argue bail for his client because he had to review lengthy documents which seem to contain contradictory versions of the event in order to prepare.Lowy agreed to set down July 28 for a bail review and pre-trial hearing. In the meantime, Mejia is being held in lieu of the high bail. The charges arise out of an incident on Feb. 5 when Mejia allegedly shot a 38-year-old Arlington man, Kevin Cuqua, on Howard Street during an attempted robbery.Cuqua told authorities it was about 7 p.m. when he stopped by a Howard Street address to get Atterol. As he was headed back into his gray truck, a Hispanic male allegedly opened the driver’s side door, pointed a gun at him and demanded his money. As he was fleeing from the scene in his truck, the victim said he heard gun shots.Police later found Cuqua wounded after running his truck into a nearby snow bank.Cuqua was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for surgery He reportedly has had to have part of his skull removed from the incident and also sustained injuries to his left knee.
