SALEM – A Superior Court judge ordered a Charlestown man who allegedly stabbed an inmate in a shower stall at the Middleton Jail two months ago remain held on $50,000 cash bail.Devin Sheehan-Powers, 21, who last lived at 102 Pearl St., #3, Charlestown, appeared for his arraignment and pleaded innocent to armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon before Judge Howard J. Whitehead. The judge set the high bail amount as jointly agreed by the prosecutor and defense, but left the door open for a bail review hearing at another court date and continued the case to July 20.In the meantime, Sheehan-Powers remains held in lieu of the high bail. The charge arises out of an apparent altercation on April 4 when Sheehan-Powers allegedly attacked a fellow inmate with a sharp object at the Middleton Jail in a shower stall. The 21-year-old victim from Lynn reportedly sustained injuries to his nose and neck.At the time Sheehan-Powers was held in lieu of bail involving another case in which he is under indictment for attacking a developmentally disabled man and robbing him of his cell phone in Lynn on July 15, 2009, allegations he has denied.Assistant District Attorney Michael Sheehan is prosecuting both cases.
