Bloody spousal spat escalates into brawl

Robin Kaminski

June 22, 2011 by Robin Kaminski

LYNN – An alleged fight between a husband and wife over a visit to the Lynn Police on Monday night quickly turned into a family affair, when the group brawled with each other while attempting to break up the skirmish. The suspect, Babatunde Olatunde Adeyemi, 37, of 95 Neptune St., #1, was charged with three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, knife, two counts of domestic assault and battery and three counts of threat to commit a crime. Adeyemi was arraigned Tuesday at Lynn District Court by Judge James Lamothe and ordered held on $2,000 cash bail. A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for July 14.According to court documents, police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found the 27-year-old victim sitting outside, crying, bleeding from a cut on her left calf, and attempting to hold onto her blouse, which appeared to have been nearly torn off her.Adeyemi was also outside and bleeding from a cut on his left arm.A witness said he came to Adeyemi’s house with the victim’s mother, because she was concerned about alleged domestic problems between the couple, and because her daughter had not answered the phone when she called. When they got to the house, the witness said the pair could see through a living room window that Adeyemi allegedly had the victim pinned on the couch and was punching her on her head and body.As they rushed inside to help the victim, the fight allegedly escalated. At some point, Adeyemi allegedly grabbed a large kitchen knife and violently swung it around, ordering everyone out of the apartment. Once outside, Adeyemi allegedly cut himself on the arm and said, “I’m gonna get you all arrested and if not I’ll kill you all!”The victim said she had gone to the Lynn police department on Monday to get an emergency restraining order against Adeyemi but, when it was being processed police say, she abruptly changed her mind and left the station. When she got home, the victim said an argument ensued with Adeyemi over her going to the police station. An officer, who said he was familiar with Adeyemi’s address because of previous domestic calls, spoke to Adeyemi about what had happened. He allegedly claimed that he was the victim of a “vicious attack.”Police say the knife allegedly used in the fight was found in a bed of uncut grass located near the home’s porch with blood on it.
