MARBLEHEAD – Mother Nature tried her best to spoil what was setting up to be a fantastic final day at the 47th Tedesco Cup on Saturday. But in the end, it was the golf that proved to be the story.Heavy overnight rains forced a 90-minute delay to begin the final round on Saturday. But when all was said and done, the duo of Rick Rockett and Bob McDermott turned in a final round 62 to finish 12-under par and with a one-shot victory over Greg Bates-Ken Seus and Tony Wood-Joe Faia.In the gross competition, the team of Matt Sachar and Matt O’Keefe played steady golf in challenging conditions, finishing at 2-under par to take a two-shot win over Peter Brown and Ken Whalley.Click here for a photo gallery.Saturday was set to be a dogfight with 29 teams within four shots of the lead shared by Jay Pingeton-Richard O’Mera and Faia-Wood.The overnight rains made the challenging Tedesco layout ripe for the taking and Rockett-McDermott took full advantage, pairing their 62 with a first-round 66 to post a two-day score of 128.Wood and Faia would shoot 66 on Saturday to finish in the tie for second with Bates-Seus, who shot 63 in the prime scoring conditions. Pingeton and O’Mera would fade to a 74 on Saturday to finish in a tie for 33rd.The day’s biggest movers were the teams of Charles Leveroni-Curtis Alexander and John and Doug Donovan. Both teams entered the day tied for 52nd at even par but shot stellar rounds of 8-under to jump into a tie for sixth.Ed and Michael Holland finished solo fourth at 10-under with John Barnes Jr.-Steve Glowacz rounding out the top five at minus-9.In the gross competition, Sachar and O’Keefe led for all 36 holes but had to survive a couple of late charges in the afternoon. Mike Zmetrovich and Tom O’Connor matched the low round of the tournament with a Saturday 38 to finish solo third at 1-over par.Conor Kelly-John Lynch III and Kurt Rockstroh-David Scholnick shared fourth at 4-over with Elias Demakes-Harry Bane; Michael Tyrrell-Denis Keohane; Brendan Locke-Dana Cole and Cy Kilgore-Bob Carlson tying for sixth at five over.
