Glover School building board needs new co-chair

Jack Butterworth

July 11, 2011 by Jack Butterworth

MARBLEHEAD – The Glover School Building Committee is in place and ready to start overseeing construction of the new $25.4 million Glover School. But the 16-member panel faces one major hurdle right at the start: replacing their detail-oriented co-chairman, Patricia Blackmer, who is stepping down to address some “personal responsibilities.”Blackmer, who was a major part of this year?s successful effort to get the school approved as a debt-exclusion override, said Thursday she is “very pleased” with last month?s debt-exclusion vote.?This project is in good hands,” she said, “and I think now it will be helpful for us to have people with experience in construction.”Her co-chairman, Robert Schaeffner, who was brought in last year to help the committee?s public relations effort, wasn?t so sure.He said he will call the first committee meeting “to get things organized,” but added that the committee will miss Blackmer?s ability to focus on details.Other committee members will include Superintendent of Schools Gregory Maas, Town Administrator Tony Sasso, School Committee member Dick Nohelty, Director of School Facilities Richard “Matty” Matthews, Glover-Eveleth Principal Mary Devlin, teacher Diane Gora, retired teacher Fran Sheridan, Finance Committee Chairman David Harris, project manager Nicole LaBossiere, landscape architect James Emmanuel, retired engineer Roger Dugas, energy industry representative Stephen Black and Capital Planning Committee member Victor Wild. All served on the committee that got the debt exclusion approved and have been approved by the Massachusetts School Building Authority.
