July 20, 2011 by Robin Kaminski

LYNN – Police say a city teenager was shot in the back Tuesday night by a suspect riding on the back of a bicycle in the area of the Bennett Street playground. At approximately 8:18 p.m., police responded to the 70-block of Elmwood Avenue, where they located the victim in distress. Witnesses say two Hispanic males wearing white T-shirts with their puffy hair tucked underneath hats, circled the victim on a silver and black bicycle before one of the suspects, who was seated on the back of the bike, opened fire. The alleged shooter was wearing beige pants at the time of the incident. Both suspects fled the area toward Commercial Street. The unidentified victim was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. According to Lt. Dave Brown, the victim?s condition as of 10 p.m. was critical but stable and he is expected to survive. No arrests were made as of press time. Then, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a second, unrelated incident was reported by several callers of shots fired at the Cook Street playground, which is located between Allen and Rockaway streets. Witnesses say people at the scene ducked and ran from the area screaming after hearing the alleged gunshots.Police quickly responded to the scene, but according to Brown, no shell casings were found, nor any victims.?It?s a possibility that shots were fired, but no one was struck and nothing indicates that the two incidents were connected,” he said. “The investigation is active and ongoing.”Anyone with information on either incident is urged to call the police at 781-595-2000. Anonymous tips can be submitted by texting the word tiplynn and the information to tip411.
