MARBLEHEAD – Police say an elderly Salem man was arrested on July 22 for allegedly supplying a group of Marblehead teenagers with booze in exchange for their attention.Ernest F. Spicer, 72, of 40 Highland Ave., #R, was charged with procuring liquor to minors, littering and having an open container of alcohol in public. Charged alongside him are: Paula R. Camelo, 18, of 148 Pleasant St., Marblehead; Olympia R. Glenn-Scola, 19, of 18 Guernsey St., Marblehead; and Matthew B. Schwartz, 17, of 5 Walnut St., Marblehead for open container in public, minor in possession of alcohol and littering.Spicer, Schwartz and Scola were arraigned Wednesday at Lynn District Court by Judge Ellen Flatley and were all released on personal recognizance. Camelo is scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment on Oct. 6.According to court documents, police received several reports of people drinking alcohol on the public dock at Crocker Park and then throwing their empty beer bottles into the harbor. Upon arrival, an officer said he saw the group allegedly sitting on the edge of the dock with multiple Rolling Rock beer bottles behind and in between them. After a couple of minutes, the officer said Camelo looked over her shoulder and noticed him watching them. As he began walking over to the group, the officer said one of the girls was allegedly dropping the bottles into the harbor. Spicer was allegedly found holding a half full bottle of beer, which he was ordered to dump out. After allegedly refusing to offer up their names and identification to the officer, the group was told they were under arrest. As they gathered their items, the officer noticed that a red bag was left behind, which contained both full and empty Rolling Rock bottles. Schwartz allegedly said that the “old guy” (Spicer) approached them with the beer, offered it to them and then gave it to them to drink. As the group was being led away, the officer said parents thanked him for arresting the group for allegedly tossing the bottles into the harbor while their young children played nearby.Schwartz later claimed possession of the red bag, which contained beer, personal items, two bags of marijuana and two bottles of his prescribed medication.A bottle of vodka was allegedly found in Scola’s purse.Calls placed to Spicer were not immediately returned. He was previously arrested in 2007 in Peabody for allegedly trying to lure several children into his vehicle while dressed in women’s lingerie.
