MARBLEHEAD – There?s a new member on the Glover School Committee: longtime tax opponent Barbara Anderson.Anderson, a Libertarian who served on the town Finance Committee from 1978-1981, has been a major voice for Citizens for Limited Taxation for 37 years – she refers to the group as “our revolution” and serves as executive director – and she led the fight to pass Proposition 2? in 1980. A newspaper columnist since 1997, she has already said she plans to write about the committee?s efforts. She said Thursday that her efforts will not just be about saving money but “making sure we don?t get ripped off.” She admitted that she has never served on a building committee before but added, “I?m good at asking questions until I get an answer.”To help her she has named her own personal subcommittee: Bob Erbetta, a builder associated with the Marblehead Community Charter Public School, and former Finance Committee member Jack Buba, who organized the opposition to the debt exclusion overrides.?They agreed to be there at meetings until I get my sea legs,” she said.Explaining her position on school projects, she referred to the $5 million in additional late change orders for the Marblehead Village School – the Massachusetts School Building Authority is only reimbursing the town for $1.1 million of that amount because due process was not followed.?They will be noticing things like that now,” she promised.Anderson submitted her letter of interest at the urging of School Committee Chairman EuRim Chun. The School Committee voted Anderson onto the Glover committee unanimously Monday afternoon at the urging of Chun and Glover committee Co-Chair Richard Nohelty.?Right before the Glover (debt exclusion) vote, she called me looking for information about the Marblehead Village School,” Chun said.?She was working hard against the Glover School project and I was working hard for it. I gave her the information she needed and I said, ?I hope if this passes you will work with us to make this project fiscally sound.”?We really want to be inclusive,” Chun said. “I?m willing to work with everybody.”
