Lynn golfer Matthew Sencabaugh is experiencing a stretch of success that many golfers may never go through ? and he’s only 14.Sencabaugh, a junior member at Gannon for the past three years, now has a grand total of six holes-in-one.His most recent holes-in-one came this month: one on Saturday, Aug. 6, and one on Friday, Aug. 12. All but the sixth came at Gannon.Number six came at Lake View Golf Course in Wenham, on the 8th hole (145 yards). He used a 7-iron, and his feat was witnessed by his grandfather, Raymond Bartlett, and the greenskeeper, who was mowing the grass and called up to the clubhouse announcing the achievement, Sencabaugh’s father Derek said, adding, “This is also the first time Matthew was held to the longstanding tradition of buying a round, albeit just for his grandfather.”The achievement came just six days after the younger Sencabaugh had a hole-in-one at Gannon on the 14th hole (145 yards) with a 7-iron. It was witnessed by Nick Madden, as well as by the foursome of Tom O’Connor, Gary McManus, Steve Masulo, and Steve Powers, who were playing in the Happy Valley Silver Classic just ahead of Sencabaugh’s group.”After the match they invited Matthew and Nick up to the banquet to celebrate with everyone,” Derek Sencabaugh said. “This shot went straight into the cup without hitting the ground.”All of Sencabaugh’s previous holes-in-one have come on the sixth hole at Gannon. In June, Matthew Sencabaugh had his first hole-in-one of the year (4th overall) from 186 yards with a 4-hybrid, witnessed by Richy McDonald and Emmitt O’Shea. He had two in 2010, both from 170 yards with a 6-iron: one on July 19, witnessed by Nick Madden, and one on Sept. 1, witnessed by Mathieu Bruneau. The magic began on Sept. 2, 2009, with a 3-hybrid, witnessed by Joe Calnan. These days, Sencabaugh is at Gannon three to four times a week, and plans to play for Lynn English this fall as a freshman, his father said.He has a golf coach in Middleton, Stephen Ventre of the PGA, and is also a caddie at Tedesco Country Club in Marblehead.
