SALEM – Bail for a Peabody carpet installer charged with burglarizing a home on Lowell Street and stealing cash, jewelry and memorabilia items remains at $25,000.Richard S. Belyea, 38, of 78A Lowell St., Peabody, appeared Friday morning for his arraignment pleading innocent to breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony, larceny of property over $250, buying and receiving stolen property more than $250 and malicious destruction of property over $250 before Salem Superior Court Judge Kimberly Budd.The judge agreed to continue the same bail amount as set earlier in Peabody District Court at the joint request of the prosecutor and defense and continued the case to Sept. 16.The defense may seek a bail review at another court date.The charges stem from an incident on the afternoon of May 2 when the suspect allegedly entered a home at 314 Lowell St., and stole hundreds of dollars worth of jewelry, several hundred in cash along with memorabilia items.Entrance had been gained through a rear window, police said.At the time of the intrusion, a female occupant was home, heard noise and immediately called police.Belyea was arrested a short time later.Assistant District Attorney Michael Patten is prosecuting the case.Public defender Alice Jayne is representing Belyea. He has been deemed indigent, meaning he has no funds to hire his own attorney. The state will pay all costs, but he will be responsible for $150 towards his legal representation.
