August 20, 2011 by Matt Tempesta

SAUGUS – Saugus Police, along with loss prevention, are investigating the theft of $11,000 in jewelry from Kay Jeweler?s in the Square One Mall. The theft was reported on Wednesday when Kay employees were doing an inventory of store merchandise.?It was not a hit-&-run, one single person committing this theft,” said Lauren Adams, a spokesperson for the mall. “It could have multiple incidents over time. It?s not something that happened just this week. It?s going to take a little while to get to the bottom of it.”Saugus Police Lt. Ronald Giorgetti said there are no suspects yet, but police are working to determine when and how the theft took place.?It was discovered during an internal audit by (Kay?s) asset protection department,” said Giorgetti. “We?re assisting them with the investigation. They?re in the process of going through video and some other things to determine when the theft took place and who might be responsible.”Giorgetti said an itemized list of the stolen merchandise wasn?t available, but he said judging by the dollar amount, it was most likely “multiple pieces.”
