SALEM – A 41-year-old Saugus man charged with stealing a catalytic converter from a vehicle at a Lynn auto repair shop last month and driving away in a stolen car was indicted last Friday afternoon by an Essex County grand jury.Michael Sbraccia, 41, of 223 Central St., Saugus, is charged with larceny of property worth more than $250, buying and receiving a stolen motor vehicle and possession of burglarious tools.The charges arise out of an incident in Lynn in the early morning hours of July 8 when the suspect allegedly went to Enrique Auto Repair, located at 12 Ellis St. in Lynn and stole a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked in their lot.Lynn Police Officer Christopher Haggerty was on duty and pulled Sbraccia, who was driving a stolen gray 2007 Subaru Legacy, over on Broad Street shortly after the incident and reportedly discovered a saw and flashlight along with the catalytic converter in the stolen car.The Subaru had been reported stolen earlier out of Methuen, according to police.Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Kirshenbaum is prosecuting the case.Indictments are a legal process that allows a case to be transferred from District Court to Superior Court allowing for a more severe punishment. It is not an indication of guilt.
