SALEM – A Lynn man accused of snatching a purse from a 90-year-old woman at the Greater Lynn Senior Services in July was one of three local men indicted Friday afternoon by an Essex County grand jury.Russell Kerivan, 62, homeless, is charged with assault and battery and larceny from a person over 65.The victim in the robbery told police it was around noon when she had sat down for lunch and a game of Bingo with her friends at the Greater Lynn Senior Services (GLSS), located at 8 Silsbee St. in Lynn. Kerivan sat next to her and began to engage in odd small talk.At some point, Kerivan asked her and her friends to watch over his bottle of vodka, saying he would be right back and left.It was then that the woman and her friends noticed Kerivan had swapped his bottle for her purse as he left in a hurry toward the men’s room.A GLSS female staff member tried to stop Kerivan as he exited the bathroom, but he allegedly pushed her out of the way.A Lynn officer who happened to be working a detail in the area was flagged down as Kerivan began running down Union Street and arrested him.During a pat frisk, police said they found a pack of cigarettes and $52 in his pant pocket.Assistant District Attorney John Brennan is prosecuting the case.Also indicted were:Samoeurn Soeuy, 22, of 37 Park St., #5, Lynn, charged with possession of a large capacity weapon, illegal possession of ammunition and unlicensed sale of a firearm stems from an incident in Lynn on Sept. 17, 2009 when he allegedly sold a firearm for $600. Assistant District Attorney Jessica Strasnick is assigned to prosecute the case.Bruce Maiben, 33, of 72 Mall St., #8, Lynn, is charged with trafficking over 14 grams of cocaine as well as possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, subsequent offense, and possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, subsequent offense, concerning his arrest on June 22 when police raided his home and reportedly discovered about 22 grams of cocaine along with a twists of cocaine and marijuana. Maiben has prior convictions for drug distribution out of the Boston Municipal Court in 2005. Assistant District Attorney Michael Sheehan is prosecuting the case.Indictments are not an indication of guilt, rather it is a legal process that allows a case to be transferred from District Court to Superior Court allowing for a more severe punishment.
