Boys Soccer: Classical steams past Marblehead in NEC opener

The Lynn Classical boys soccer team bounced back from Saturday’s loss to St. Mary’s in the Lynn City Tournament championship game with a convincing 5-0 win over Marblehead at Piper Field on Monday.”The guys played really well (Monday),” Classical coach Rob Upton said. “We moved the ball really well.”Salvador Castro scored twice to lead the Ram (1-1-1) offense. Abdoulaye Bah, Javier Castro and Jesus Diveros also had goals. Don Gomes and Salvador Castro split the shutout in net.”We are starting to come together a little bit,” Upton said.Spellman 2, St. Mary’s 0At Manning Field, the Spartans (2-1, 0-1 Catholic Central League/Large) came out slow and couldn’t overcome the sluggish start.Mike Russo, Grant McKinnon and Mike Sonia all played well for St. Mary’s.Swampscott 2, Beverly 0At Phillips Park in Swampscott, Kendrick Simpson and Erick Verdu recorded first-half goals while Patrick Kennedy made the bulk of his 15 saves in a second half dominated by Beverly to seal the win for the 1-1 Big Blue.Fenwick 7, Austin Prep 3At Reading, Brian Blaisdell had two goals and three assists to pace the Crusader attack. Rishad DeSilva also added two goals while Brendan Burns, Chris Poirier and Shane Alexander each had single tallies.Danvers 6, Everett 1At Dr. Deering Stadium in Danvers, Eric Martin and Jon Amico each recorded a hat trick and an assist as the Falcons (1-1) bounced back from Saturday’s loss to Lynnfield.”We struggled so much to finish the ball against Lynnfield,” Danvers coach Mike Chase said. “(Monday) the ball bounced in the other direction for us.”
