School Roundup: Swampscott field hockey rolls past Revere

The Swampscott field hockey team opened the 2011 campaign in convincing fashion on Monday, steaming to a 5-0 win over Revere.Tori Thistle had a pair of goals and an assist while Cody Kline and Julianne Marquis each had a goal and an assist to lead the offense.”Everyone really played well for us,” Swampscott coach Toby Channen said.Gabby Rizzo had the final Big Blue goal. Tessa Beane; Aly Aylward; Lisa Vu and Alexa Steriti added assists with Rose Moleti stopping all four shots she faced.Danvers 2, Marblehead 1At Danvers, the Magicians (0-1) had the shots and corners advantage but Nicole Pszenny’s goal with 2:00 left in regulation was the difference for the Falcons.Rachel Trocchi had the first Danvers goal with Tyler Phillips tying things up for Marblehead late in the first half.”We had a couple of defensive breakdowns,” Marblehead coach Linda Rice-Collins said. “We had pressure on them the entire game.”Beverly 1, Saugus 0At Beverly, the Panthers’ Katie Petrini scored what would be the game-winning goal in the first half. The Sachems, who lost 15 players to graduation, returned only three starters. Despite the inexperience, however, the Sachems (0-1) played well on defense. Goalie Lindsey Caniff had 12 saves.VOLLEYBALLBeverly 3, English 0At Beverly, the Panthers christened their new digs in style as the Bulldogs (0-1) put up a strong fight in the final two sets.English dropped the first game 25-7, but hung tough in a 25-22 second set and actually served for the third set at 24-23 but surrendered the final three points of the match.Masco 3, Peabody 0At Peabody, Caroline Scacchi had nine kills and five blocks and Katie Kelley added nine assists in the loss. The game scores were 25-15, 25-21 and 25-17.L’field 3, Ham-Wen 0At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (3-0) won their home opener, taking the sets 25-7, 25-18 and 25-9. The Pioneers got good games from Julia Goldstein (4 aces, 8 kills, 6 digs); Liz Vo (9 kills, 4 digs); Caroline Shannon (5 kills, 4 aces, 6 digs); and Abby Norwood (5 aces, 15 assists, 2 kills).
