Peabody girls take the tie

The Peabody girl’s soccer team dominated Chelmsford Thursday night, but a controversial goal forced the Tanners to settle for a 1-1 tie at Chelmsford.The score was 0-0 at the half. The Tanners (2-0-1) struck first when Hayley Dowd scored four minutes into the second half. Chelmsford scored at the 15-minute mark on a controversial call that tied the game 1-1.Peabody coach Dennis Desroches was impressed with his team’s composure.”Everyone knew that we were not happy with the call. My team showed great character not letting that call affect them and finished the rest of the game very strong,” Desroches said.Peabody dominated the game and outshot Chelmsford 26-6. The Tanners’ Katie Brunell and Madison Doherty both had a strong game at mid-field.Medford 3, English 0At Medford, The Bulldogs were down 2-0 at the half and could never make up the difference. English coach Ed McNeil was very happy with his team’s performance.”My team played very well today. Medford is the returning GBL Champions and are a very good team as well. I am very excited and happy how my team performed against such an accomplished team,” McNeil said.Leading the way for English (1-3) was freshman goalie Tagon Nelson (14 saves). It was Nelson’s first ever varsity game in net. Mackenzie Clark, Hayley Mah and Rachael Roy played very well on the defensive side.Central Cath. 4, Danvers 1At Lawrence Memorial Stadium, the Falcons (2-1) ran into a buzzsaw against one of the top programs in the state as the Raiders scored the game’s final three goals after Stephanie Kowalski tied things in the first half.”Central is an excellent team,” Danvers coach Jim Hinchion said. “We’ve got a ways before we’re ready to contend at that level.”Lynnfield 2, Gloucester 2At Newell Stadium in Gloucester, the Pioneers (0-1-2) got a goal and an assist from Scout Benson as they fought back from a 2-1 deficit at the half.”To come back and score and tie the game and then put the pressure on them at the end, the girls felt better about how things went,” Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont said. “We had some great opportunities and didn’t pop them in.”Emily Stewart gave Lynnfield a 1-0 lead at the five-minute mark before Gloucester clawed back to take the lead.BOYS SOCCERFenwick 3, MC 0At Fenwick, Fenwick was up 1-0 at the end of the first half and never looked back. Fenwick scored its first goal 28 minutes into the first half, when Bryon Blaisdell scored assisted by Chris Poirier. Ten minutes into the second half, Brendan Burns scored on a corner kick assisted by Nate Jacobs. Rashard Kahn scored the final goal with seven minutes left in the game. Fenwick (2-0) plays Beverly today.Manchester 3, M’head 2At Manchester, Marblehead (0-2) was tied 1-1 at the half. Marblehead’s Josh Deloff scored the Magicians’ first goal on a penalty kick. Marblehead was down 2-1 early in the second half and tied the game 2-2 on a Rudy Mukania goal with 10 minutes left. Manchester scored the game-winning goal with one minute left.Chelsea 3, Tech 1At Chelsea Memorial Stadium, Francisco Franco scored off a direct kick in the second half but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers spotted the hosts a 3-0 lead.”It took us until the second half to get our game together,” Tech coach Fred Gallo said.
