Michaela Hamill of Wyoma Little League was awarded the 2011 Grace Rogato Award at the Rogato Banquet on Saturday night. The Grace Rogato Award is a city-wide honor given annually to a graduating 12-year-old Lynn softball player who is not only an accomplished athlete on the diamond but who also demonstrates excellence in the classroom and a commitment to community service. The award was established by Alice O’Neil, several years ago, to honor the legacy of Lynn softball great Grace Rogato. Unfortunately, Ms. O’Neil passed away just last year after many years of distinguished service in Lynn Little League.Hamill, who is an eighth-grader at St. Pius V School, is the daughter of Laurie and Don Hamill. This summer, she helped lead the Wyoma Little League Major Softball team to a District 16 title, the Massachusetts State Championship and a berth in the Eastern Regional final four in Bristol, CT.Other nominees for the Grace Rogato Award who were also honored at the banquet included Shannon Magner from West Lynn LL, Michelle Scuzzarella from Pine Hill LL and Stephanie Bryson from East Lynn LL.
