It was another high-intensity, fast-paced affair between St. Mary’s and Bishop Fenwick under the lights on Monday at Donaldson Field in Peabody.The Catholic Central League/Large rivals found themselves in another tight game as Brendan Burns’ goal with 18 minutes left in the second half gave the Crusaders a 2-1 win.”It really is a nice little rivalry,” Fenwick coach Andrew Bub said. “And both teams seem to always pipe up for it. It was a hard-fought game on both sides.”The Spartans broke the ice early in the first half when Pedro-Lucas Ferreira finished off an Alexander Alleyne pass. But Fenwick’s Rishad DaSilva scored with 10 minutes left in the half, assisted by Brian Blaisdell, to deadlock the game at 1-1 at halftime.”We were a little loose in the first half with our play but we came out and got after it in the second half,” Bub said.The Crusaders (3-0-1) went ahead when Burns headed home a pass from Chris Poirier in close. From there, the Fenwick defense held the fort.”We were a little sluggish in the second half and weren’t aggressive,” St. Mary’s coach Mike D’Agostino said. “We controlled the first half but we let our heads get down after they tied the game.”Saugus 8, Pope John 0At Everett Memorial Stadium, Andre Ipajuca had a hat trick and Leo Nunziante added a pair of goals as the Sachems (2-2) rolled to victory. Guiherme Barbosa, Andrew Rapsomikis and Zack Verrengia also scored while Nick Desalines had four assists.Lynnfield 2, Hamilton-Wenham 0At South Hamilton, the Pioneers (3-0) picked up a win in a place that has traditionally been a house of horrors thanks to a pair of second-half goals by Marco Addonizio.”We played well in the first half but didn’t put any in,” Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe said. “Our defense played great ? We hardly ever go there and win.”Nick Romano stopped all five shots he faced in net.Somerville 4, Salem 3At Bertram Field in Salem, all the scoring was done in the first half as Brion Likaj scored twice and Xavier Polanco had a single marker for the Witches (2-1).GIRLS SOCCERSaugus 3, Everett 1At Everett, the Sachems got the job done at both ends of the field. Jackie Russo, Olivia Turgeon and Brianna Evans took care of the scoring (Evans and Turgeon also had an assist) and the defense held up their end of the bargain. Melissa Toomey picked up the win in net with help from the defensive contingent of Gabby Cogliano, Ashley Firth, Haley DeCristoforo and Ashley Corton. Saugus is 4-0.Lynnfield 5, Ham-Wen 0At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (1-1-2) finally got in the win column as they ran out to a 3-0 lead at the half. Allegra DiCesare had a goal and two assists to lead the offense.Scout Benson, Emily Stewart; Kim Duhaime and Alex Prach also had goals. Nareh Sahakian made eight saves to post the shutout.Beverly 2, Salem 0At Beverly, the Witches had a strong game defensively with Jessica King, Alix Bryant and freshmen Gabby Rocheville and Katherine Towey playing well. Emma Titus (13 saves) was solid in net.
