Salvador Castro was a one-man wrecking crew for the Classical boys soccer team on Tuesday, netting a second-half hat trick to give the Rams a 3-0 win over Winthrop at Winthrop.Meanwhile, at Peabody, Mike Chiappini was doing some damage of his own, scoring five goals in a 7-2 Peabody win over Beverly.Classical coach Rob Upton was happy with his team’s performance, especially in the second half.”We had many opportunities early and could not cash in on them. I was glad to see my team keep the aggression up and capitalize on their scoring chances in the second half,” Upton said.It was 0-0 going into the second half. Castro scored his first goal on a penalty kick early in the second half. Midway through the second half, he added another goal to give the Rams a 2-0 cushion. Castro scored again in the closing moments of the game for the hat trick.The Rams’ Javier Castro, Joe Field and Angel Banales all had strong performances at midfield. Classical is now 2-2-1.Peabody 7, Beverly 2At Beverly, Chiappini scored four goals in the first half to give the Tanners a 4-0 lead. He added another one in the second half, along with an assist. Teammate Colin Mahoney had five assists and a goal.”Mike just had one of those games every soccer player dreams of,” Peabody coach Stan McKeen said. “He was in the right place at the right time. Sidiki Kaba scored Salem’s first goal, to give the Witches a 1-0 lead. Esosa Okunmwendia added a goal in the second half to put the game away. Daniel Collins had a strong game in net (5 saves). Salem is now 3-1.GIRLS SOCCERPeabody 0, Swampscott 0At Peabody, the Tanners (2-0-2) were without top gun Hayley Dowd, who was sidelined with stitches, but they still managed to get off 19 shots. Swampscott goalie Bridget Genoversa-Wong was up to the challenge, as was Peabody keeper Caitlin Lodi.”Swampscott (3-0-1) played great defense,” Peabody coach Dennis Desroches said, adding that he was very impressed with how his team played with Dowd out of the lineup.Danvers 4, Marblehead 2At Marblehead, Corey Persson had three goals and an assist for the Falcons, who also had a goal from Kylie Palaza. Katie McKenna and Renee Pohle anchored the defense.Marblehead (1-1-1) cut the first-half deficit to 3-1 thanks to a goal by senior Gabby Carrick. Sophomore Monica Thorne accounted for the other Marblehead goal with Sydney Cayen getting the assist.
