English dominates Revere in second half

The English girls soccer team outscored Revere 2-0 in the second half, as the Bulldogs defeated Revere 2-0 at Manning Field Thursday night.It was 0-0 at the end of the first half. English (2-4) coach Ed McNeil was impressed by his team’s performance.”My team played very well today especially in the second half. We had a tough week last week so it was good to see my team win a close game the next time around,” McNeil said.Bulldogs sophomore Veronica Uk scored the game-winning goal with 20 minutes left in the game, which was assisted by Abby Martocchio. Briana Moreno scored the final goal, assisted by Mackenzie Clark. Karissa Burton had a strong game in net (10 saves).St. Mary’s 4, Matignon 2At Cambridge, the Spartans’ (4-1-1, 2-1-1 Catholic Central League/Large) Sophia Holmes had a pair of tallies as St. Mary’s scored three unanswered times in the second half.”We came out flat after the emotional win against Fenwick the other night,” Spartans coach Jim Foley said. “But we picked it up in the second half.”Michaela St. Cyr and Jennie Mucciarone also had goals.Peabody 7, Marblehead 0At Peabody, the Tanners got off to a quick 4-0 lead at the half and never looked back. Peabody had six different players get in on the scoring action. Leading the way for Peabody was Victoria Digiacomo (2 goals). Haley Dowd, Krista Trombley, Madison Doherty, Ericka Nelson and Christine Feudo all scored one goal. Peabody is now 3-0-2.Saugus 1, Winthrop 1At Winthrop, Winthrop jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal from Stephanie O’Brien at the 25-minute mark. Saugus (4-0-1) tied the game 1-1 at the 35-minute mark on a goal from Brianna Evans assisted by Paige Hibbard. It was a defensive stalemate for the second half, with Haley DeCristoforo, Emma Polamino, Ashley Firch and Gabby Cogliano patrolling the Sachem defense.Gr. Lawrence 3, Tech 2At Greater Lawrence, the Tigers had goals from Gloria Berrera, with the assist going to Hailey Martin, and Julissa Deleon, who scored on a direct kick. Both goals were in the first half. Christine Walters (12 saves) was in net.Gloucester 6, Classical 1At Classical, the Rams were down 2-0 and could never fully recover. The Rams’ lone goal came in the second half from Mackenzie Coppinger. Stopper Kristin Lauria and sweeper Yazmin Badr had strong performances Thursday. Classical is now 1-3-1.Danvers 1, Salem 1At Bertram Field in Salem, it was a night of frustration to put it mildly for the 3-1-1 Falcons as Corey Persson’s goal with 3:00 left in the first half off an Alex Strangie corner was the only offense Danvers could muster.”We had a difficult time putting it together offensively and that’s a credit to Salem,” Danvers coach Jim Hinchion said.
